Mirena and Copper IUD Services
Mirena/Copper IUD insertion and removal are now available at our practice.
An IUD is a small contraceptive device which is placed into the uterus. There are hormone-releasing IUDs which can last between 5 to 7 years, and copper IUDs which can last between 5 or 10 years. Both hormonal and copper IUDs provide excellent contraception. Hormonal IUDs have the added benefit of providing menstrual control and the copper IUD can be used as the most effective option for emergency contraception.
Talk to your doctor about your contraceptive options to help you decide which device would be most suitable for you. Both IUD types are considered safe when breastfeeding and are not affected by other medications.
